Letters, military documents, financial documents, and other papers, relating to Yeager's military service with the Corps of Engineers during the Mexican War, service following the war in the Pennsylvania militia, and volunteer service with Pennsylvania regiments at the beginning of the Civil War. Letters written to his family during the Mexican War describe his training in the construction of pontoon bridges, and his service in Texas, Matamoros, Tampico, Jalapa, Puebla, and Mexico City, including a description of the Battle of Cerro Gordo.
